https://www.peacecorps.gov/volunteer/response-openings/curriculum-assessment-expertwriter-4901br/ https://www.peacecorps.gov/volunteer/response-openings/curriculum-assessment-expertwriter-4901br/

Project Description
A Peace Corps Response Volunteer is needed to serve as an English Education Assessment Specialist for the Dirección de Gestión y Evaluación de la Calidad-DGEC (Office of Management and Evaluation Quality) at the Ministry of Public Education in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Costa Rican public educational system is currently undergoing an English curricular reform and has created a new syllabus that encourages the development of productive language skills at both the primary and secondary level. The DGEC is responsible for assessing students by taking into account the characteristics of the new syllabus, based on the Common European Framework of Reference, encouraging the development of the four linguistic skills (Listening, writing, reading, and speaking). A new comprehensive national exam, aligned to the new syllabus, must be created in order to assess Costa Rican students at the end of high school. The Ministry will develop the new national exam over the course of the next five years, and they are seeking a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to contribute to the foundational work of creating this new assessment.

An English Education Assessment Specialist with at least two years’ experience in language assessment, education measurement and evaluation, and standardized test development is needed to work closely with DGEC in the creation of a standardized and comprehensive national English exit exam that corresponds to the new English curriculum. The PCRV will collaborate with a counterpart to design a theoretical framework and a proposal for large-scale assessment in the country based on the new syllabus which is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference. The Volunteer will also contribute to the definition of test specifications for the new standardized test, design and pilot items that will be part of the new test, train item writers (Costa Rican teachers) on standardized testing, and train Regional and National advisors on the proposal for the new standardized test. The goal of this program is to build the DGEC’s capacity to design a new national assessment around the new English curriculum which the Ministry has developed.

We are a Norwalk-based company with a few employees for whom English is a second language. They are all Brazilian and speak Portuguese. Some have passable English skills, but need work and others are quite limited.

We have had a private tutor working with them after work a few times a week for the past year and it has helped quite a bit. Unfortunately for us, she has recently obtained new employment that makes it impossible for her to continue working with us.

Typically, the sessions are held at our offices in Norwalk in the late afternoon or early evening. It varies a little bit by season.
